Visiting the Ballard Locks during the summer season is a like an open house tour for the world of boating. Standing along the sides of the Locks, you get to see the variety of boat names, sizes, and people who are part of the community of city based boaters!
If you decide to visit on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, you also have a chance to enjoy one of the Concert at the Locks events which usually involves a small orchestra of instruments. The concerts start at 2 p.m. and usually last about an hour or so. Bring a blanket and an afternoon snack to enjoy the sights and sounds that make up this unique attraction in our lovely city.
If you want to learn more about the history of the Locks themselves, I recommended stepping inside the Visitor Center to watch the SHORT (only 12 minutes or so) movie about the history. Definitely brings a new perspective to your visit. Of course, all of this is FREE!
